It’s not just the freshness and health of plants that will come under the spotlight at the Southport Flower Show – visitors will be able to make sure their own health is blooming through a series of wellbeing checks.
The free health checks will be available on the Buckshaw Retirement Village stand (No. B30), which is close to the main entrance, in the Lifestyle area.
Phil Hill, Assistant Operations Director at the new retirement village for the over 55s, which is based near Chorley, said: "Our on-site nurse will be on hand to carry out a range of free checks, including blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol levels and body mass index."
"The age range of many of the people visiting the Flower Show is very much in line with that of people interested in moving into the Buckshaw Retirement Village. As people reach the age of 55 and beyond, health and wellbeing issues take on a greater significance, so the Flower Show is an ideal platform to highlight various aspects of our wellbeing programme, which is being launched shortly to coincide with the opening of our assisted living facility at Buckshaw Retirement Village," he added.
The retirement village has three distinct communities; The Court is for residents who are independent and like the idea of home ownership in a village community, The Grange assisted living facility is for residents who need some support but don’t want to give up their independence and move into a care home, and The Lodge is a state-of-the-art dementia care facility, which is the most modern in Europe.
The Buckshaw Retirement Village stand at Southport Flower Show will feature staff from the village’s care and support and hospitality teams, together with sales and management representatives. Visitors to the stand will be able to try out some healthy eating options prepared by the hospitality team.
