Volunteers Needed For Newly-Opened Dementia Care Unit

Are you interested in working with people who have dementia? The Lodge, the newly-opened dementia care facility within Buckshaw Retirement Village at Chorley, is looking for up to 30 volunteers to help out.

Assistant Operations Director Philip Hill said: "We are looking for people willing to come in for two to three hours a day for as many days as they wish. People might want to become volunteers to put something back into the community or to understand more about dementia."

"They might have a relative or friend with dementia and would like to learn more about caring for people with this condition. They might even know someone staying here at The Lodge, and volunteering would be a good way of keeping in touch with them. Volunteers will also be helping to shape a world class environment here at The Lodge," he added.

Mr Hill said the work of the volunteers would be wide-ranging and varied: "In our innovative Market Square area of The Lodge we need people to help out in our café, pet area, village pub, corner shop, bakery and potting shed. They might help to organise special themed events, which might also involve visits to local places of interest."

Volunteers are also required in the independent living and assisted living communities at Buckshaw Retirement Village, which is due to open later this year.
